August 10 - Photography workshop from John Cole
Award-winning professional photographer, John Cole, has developed a one-day practical Photography workshop for ContentETC. John has looked at the world through a camera lens for over 25 years and been lucky enough to photograph people from all walks of life, from Princess Diana to Muhammad Ali, from Men in Grey Suits, to Eastern European coal miners. As well as winning awards, and having had his photos on the covers of international magazines, he’s done huge amounts of teaching and training over the years, running parallel with his assignment work. He’s taught short courses at the London College of Communications for over 20 years, as well as at Westminster University and Hastings College of Art. He runs intensive and hands-on courses on photojournalism, reportage and location photography.
John has recently returned from South Africa, where he was involved in the “Wembley to Soweto” project – an international education project that teaches eight 15-19 year-old students from the Johannesburg townships the fundamentals of professional photography so that they can learn to feed their families with their cameras. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8_j7GSqSbgNovember 09 - Exclusive, original, quality content It is now no secret that your content needs these three traits in order to succeed. As Emap CEO, David Gilbertson, reminded publishers hoping to charge for digital content - you have to be unique! He issued a stark warning at the recent AOP summit to (business) media that simply re-write press releases: "If you do that then you are a producer of a commodity which is in unlimited supply - it might be important but its price is either plus or minus nil. In an undifferentiated world it's hard to see a profitable future." So if you want to build novelty, frequency and loyalty, you have to deliver the best content. Read Richard Sharpe's blog to see how we are addressing this need, and how your own apporach will be critical to the future success of your business. Or have a look at these courses that can help your teams acquire or renew the skills they need to deliver the best possible content: Using research and digging; Keep your reader coming back to your features; Subbing content so your readers return for more; Writing quality exclusive news; Balancing the needs of SEO and creativity and Creating a longer, richer journey for your web user.
