Why pod and vodcasting?

  • An introduction to how and why these techniques are being used by newspapers and magazines
  • The ‘added value’ of the pod and vodcast
  • What’s in it for the consumer/listener/viewer?

The pod/vodcast interview
In this main section of the day delegates learn how to adapt their print interview techniques to broadcast.  Exercises cover recording in tricky and noisy situations, doing celebrity and ‘fun’ interviews.

  • How to ask questions which produce:
  • The stand-alone answer
  • The answer which incorporates the question
  • The easy to edit soundbite
  • How to get the subject to give you useable stories and illustrations
  • What will/won’t work technically
  • How to know when you need a re-take

Your voice/your appearance

  • Talking on mic and appearing on camera – the basic rules
  • How to achieve clarity, simplicity and confidence
  • How not to sound cheesy, nervous, gushing or pathetic  (It’s not about your accent)

Remember
You only have the material your subject provides – you cannot fill in the gaps or enhance the quotes.  The best interviews are the ones in which your voice is only lightly heard.

Technical stuff

  • What you need to know about audio recording and basic camera techniques
  • How to perfect the ‘piece to camera’
  • Using the ISDN line
  • Recording on location (in your subject’s office, home or hotel room), in the street
