The PPA Foundation Certificate in Journalism

For all new, aspiring or inexperienced journalists.  A comprehensive foundation journalism e-learning programme, including one-to-one trainer feedback and expert assessment.

Once candidates have completed the programme and been successfully assessed in all six modules, they will be awarded their PPA Foundation Certificate in Journalism.

Cost

  • PPA Members - £1585 + VAT (members may also pay in installments)
  • Non-members - £1743.50 + VAT

Timing

Candidates have a full 12 months to complete their Foundation Certificate in Journalism from the date they receive their first e-learning Module.  If they fail to complete their Certificate within this time scale, they can buy an extension for £10 per extra 30 days.

Mentoring

Comprehensive expert feedback is already included in the Certificate fee, but individual mentoring is also available to candidates who feel they need more input from the trainer.  Candidates can purchase extra time with the trainer on a flexible basis, as and when they need it, and this is charged at an hourly rate of £95 per hour.

Re-Assessment

If a candidate fails to achieve successful assessment for one of the Modules, they will automatically be offered the opportunity to repeat the entire Module and Assessment process.

Candidates are able to repeat their e-learning, free of charge, as many times as they like within the 12 month period, but will be charged an extra £50 per module for Module Re-Assessment.

The PPA Professional Certificate in Journalism

Created for experienced journalists finding it difficult to spare the time needed to gain vital industry qualifications.  The Professional Certificate in Journalism allows candidates to submit work and complete exams online, which are then assessed by expert tutors.  Successful candidates will earn the PPA professional journalism certificate that is recognised and respected around the world.

Once the candidate’s work has been assessed as reaching the required standard, they will formally be awarded their PPA Professional Certificate in Journalism.

Cost

  • PPA Members £775 + VAT (members may also pay in installments)
  • Non-members £930 + VAT

Timing

Candidates have a total of six months to complete their Professional Certificate in Journalism and submit their work for assessment, starting from the date they first receive their Certificate documents.  If for any reason they are unable to submit their completed work within this time scale, they are able to buy a time extension at a cost of £10 for each additional 30 day period.

Mentoring

Each candidate is provided with comprehensive guidance and directions throughout the Certificate programme.  If they feel they also need extra input to help them build up a body of work, candidates are free to purchase online time with an expert programme tutor.  They can purchase this time on a flexible basis, as and when they need it, and will be charged an hourly rate of £95 per hour.

Word limits

Candidates are provided with maximum word limits on certain questions, and the programme assessors will not read or mark any candidate's work which exceeds by more than 10% the maximum word limit guidelines.

Assessment

When each candidate's work is successfully assessed as reaching the required standard, they will be awarded the PPA Professional Certificate in Journalism, and will receive one of the following:

Pass: 50-70%
Merit: 71-85%
Distinction: 86-100%

Re-Assessment

Each candidate will be provided with a report on their Certificate programme, and if they fail their assessment, they will be clearly advised on what they need to do to reach the required standard.  If a candidate chooses to act on this advice, they will be offered the chance to repeat the Module and Assessment process, and this will incur an additional charge of £50 per module.
