This hands-on course breaks down the role of the sub into its numerous parts and looks at the challenges of being a sub.

The sub as brand guardian – controlling tone of voice, language and style across different media
Doing it: An exercise to test sub-editing skills
The sub as team player – dealing with writers, designers and editors; the importance of negotiation and compromise
The sub as self-motivator – proactively setting and achieving goals; developing resilience
The sub as time manager – managing one’s own time and working effectively with the timescales of others
Doing it: A role play exercise based around a difficult issue; a team-related exercise to test interpersonal skills
