Those campaigning folk at StinkyJournalism have just published a neat little study into the editing habits of US newspapers. Specifically, they wanted to know how many of the top ten newspaper websites actually edited their own blog posts.
What do you think they found?
The answer may surprise you! Have a look and see how many newspaper blogs are edited.
I must admit what caught my eye is:
a) The huge range of blog topics, and the variety of categories favoured by each media owner
b) That the NY Times edits every single one of its blogs
c) While the San Francisco Chronicle edits none of them!
Should blogs be the informal musings of a professional community, freed from the normal “restraints” of the official website? Or are they really just another platform on which to broadcast the accepted view and – hopefully – grow the audience?
Our new blogging course shows you how to get the most out of the blogosphere in a few short hours. And then you won’t even need to edit your own posts…
